SHIBA: Space Warrior — Synthwave Shoot 'em Up

Fly Shiba 8.6 light-years to Sirius, the Dog Star, in a retro-80s synthwave shoot 'em up with colossal bosses and endless procedural sectors. Built with Babylon.js and Nuxt, free in your browser.

SHIBA: Space Warrior is a frantic retro-80s synthwave shoot 'em up. Shiba sets off from the asteroid belt with a single mission: fly all the way to Sirius, the Dog Star, 8.6 light-years away. Every enemy you blast boosts the warp drive and pushes you farther into space; every hit you take pulls you back.

The catch is that space gets heavier with every sector. Reaching Sirius would take days of non-stop play without dying, if it can be done at all. The real question is how far you can fly.

The road to Sirius

  • Live distance odometer. The distance from Earth to Sirius updates as you play, with a real-time ETA at your current pace.
  • Five colossal bosses. Roughly every 7% of the journey a final boss blocks the way: Ursa Major, Void Leviathan, Hydra Prime, Gravity Titan and The Obliterator, each with three phases. Beat it and warp through hyperspace into a new sector.
  • Endless procedural sectors. Neon sunsets, cyber oceans, toxic nebulas, crimson voids, solar forges, ice citadels and lunar gates, with auroras, storms and meteor showers.
  • Space events. Solar Wind, Ion Storms, Gravity Wells, Supply Drops and golden bonus targets keep every run changing.
  • HYPERDRIVE. Chain explosions into chain reactions to fill the HYPER gauge, then kick in the HYPERDRIVE for double fire rate and golden piercing lasers.
  • A full arsenal. Combos, grazing, five weapon levels with homing missiles, plasma shields and NOVA bombs.
  • Shiba on comms. A portrait in the corner of the screen reacts to everything that happens, with 11 hand-crafted moods.
  • Cinematic camera. Boss entrances, slow-motion kills and barrel-roll hyperspace warps.
  • Synthwave sound. An original soundtrack, an arcade announcer and a world that pulses to the bass.

Development notes

The game is built with Babylon.js, Nuxt and TypeScript, and its low-poly models were made in Blender. As disclosed on itch.io, AI tools assisted with code, graphics, sound and text: the key art, portraits, music, sound effects and voice were generated with OpenAI GPT Image and ElevenLabs and art-directed by the developer.
